OUR APPROACH . . .

Re-imagining of a cherished community space by saving existing trees and redistributing storm water collection and maximizing the entire site's function for community use.

The re-imagining of this central park located adjacent to the town's center was accomplished by a multi-disciplinary team led by Deborah.

The design highlighted the protection of 22 mature trees including the evergreen that functions as the town’s Christmas Tree, updating the park's baseball field, basketball court, parking, and open green space; and adding a skate park, walking trail, restroom, playground, plazas and gathering areas, site furnishings, drinking fountains and maximizing the site's unique topography by adding an embankment slide which functions well for all ages and all abilities.

Sustainability also rated as a high priority for the Town, so many of the park's furnishings were rehabilitated and reused. Bleachers, tables and canopies were relocated and rehabilitated, and the basketball court was repurposed with a state-of-the-art finish which provided a new life for these amenities while providing much needed cost savings.

New native and desert adapted trees and shrubs were installed to provide, shade, color and fragrance year-round. A new automatic hydro-zoned irrigation system provides a low-pressure drip system for the trees and shrubs as well as a new spray  irrigation system for the baseball field which in turn provides water saving functionality.

Creative storm water design which is highlighted by the re-imagining of a fenced storm water basin and augmented by storm water harvesting techniques, such as green swales and rain gardens, redistributes and maximizes the use of storm water throughout the park while enhancing the function of the site and allowing the community's use of the entire site.
